Job Description

The Bookkeeper is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions for multiple clients of the CPA firm. This role supports accurate financial reporting, ensures compliance with applicable standards, and works closely with accountants and CPAs to maintain clean, audit-ready financial records.

Key Responsibilities

Client Accounting & Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounts for multiple clients
  • Record daily financial transactions, including income, expenses, and adjustments
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts on a regular basis
  • Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Process journal entries and month-end closing activities

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow)
  • Generate client-specific reports and dashboards as requested
  • Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready

Tax & Compliance Support

  • Assist CPAs with tax preparation by organizing financial data
  • Maintain supporting documentation for deductions, expenses, and compliance requirements
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP and firm standards

Payroll & Sales Tax (if applicable)

  • Process payroll and maintain payroll records
  • File and track sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory filings
  • Respond to notices and assist with compliance issues

Client Communication

  • Serve as a point of contact for bookkeeping-related client inquiries
  • Communicate discrepancies, missing information, and recommendations to clients
  • Build and maintain positive client relationships

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of bookkeeping experience, ideally in a public accounting or CPA firm
  • Experience handling multiple clients or entities is strongly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Xero, Sage)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)
  • Familiarity with GAAP and basic tax principles

Soft Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize workload
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification (or similar)
  • Experience working in a CPA firm environment
  • Exposure to tax preparation or audit support
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting tools and integrations
